Mirkar and The Snake

Babasaheb Mirikar, the Mamlatdar of Kopergaon, on his tour to Chitali, came to Shirdi for darshan of Baba, and prostrated himself at His feet.Baba, while enquiring about his health and welfare, said “Do you know about our Dwaraka Mai. This is our Dwaraka Mai where you are sitting now. She wards off all dangers and anxieties of her children who sit on her lap. This Masjid Mai is very merciful. She is the mother of simple devotees whom she saves from calamities. Once a person sits here, all his troubles are over for ever.

He who rests in her shade attains bliss.” Saying these words, Baba gave Holy ash (Udi) to Mirikar and blessed him. When Mirikar was about to leave, Baba again said, gesturing with his hand like a snake, “Do you know this Lamba Bava (tall gentlemen). He is so terrible, but what can he do to the children of Dwaraka Mai. When Dwaraka Mai protects, what can serpents do?”

Everyone was puzzled, but no one asked Him what He meant. On Baba’s instructions, Shama accompanied Mirikar to Chitali. They reached Chitali by 9 p.m and halted at the Maruthi temple. While Mirikar was sitting, engrossed in reading a newspaper, a snake was slowly moving about on his upper garment, making a rustling noise. The peon, who was nearby, saw the snake and raised an alarm. Mirikar was very frightened. Shama was also shocked. In the meanwhile, the serpent slowly climbed down from Mirikar’s waist and was killed immediately. Mirikar was thus saved by the blessings of Baba.
